Apple Black Screen Of Death

Seems my Mac wants this Windows user to feel comfy. Went for coffee and when I came back was confronted with a translucent black screen urging me to hold in the power button to restart. After the re-boot all data was gone and this awaited me:

Huh…according to some people, things like this never happen in Appleland. Of course, we all know better. I’ve been told, too, that Linux never crashes and does not require reboots when updating or installing software. I’ve also seen numerous tales of woe and angst about Vista UAC. Yet… the last install of Unbuntu crashed several times, with the last crash causing catastrophic damage to the file system; the last install updated itself with something like 125 updates, which required a restart of the machine; the last install popped up a UAC like dialog box almost as much as Vista had. The version was ‘hardy heron’ or something like that. I gave up on it, removed what was left and put XP on the box. Been working mostly trouble since. So…the OS really does not matter as it is as much a personal preference as it is necessity.
