Interesting post. I agree with you that it's annoying to have your music tied to one player. My iPod died a few years ago and I refused to pay the "fee" ($80!! that's a hell of a fee) to have my battery replaced, so I sold my broken iPod on Ebay to a winner who didn't mind paying to have the battery replaced. I'm a Rhapsody user. I love it. I love that I can put my music on any number of MP3 players, save for the iPod. I think it's silly that I can't use one, but I don't really ever desire one. Sure, they're pretty and smooth, but it's not that special. It's just not.
Hasn't apple said they don't actually sell a lot of music from iTunes? The ipod is their bread and butter. not the actual music.

Hi Sam, As always, great show. I think you may have a point about Apple waiting out Psystar. It will be interesting, after June 9, to see what they do, if anything.

Around 6:10 in your show, the audio seems to fade out. It stays that way for several seconds and then comes back up.

Looking forward to the video.

Windows 2 Apples reply:

Thanks for your encouraging comments. Yes, sorry about the audio drop out. I see what the culprit was and should not happen in future.

Huh...according to some people, things like this never happen in Appleland. Of course, we all know better.
I've been told, too, that Linux never crashes and does not require reboots when updating or installing software. I've also seen numerous tales of woe and angst about Vista UAC. Yet...
the last install of Unbuntu crashed several times, with the last crash causing catastrophic damage to the file system; the last install updated itself with something like 125 updates, which required a restart of the machine; the last install popped up a UAC like dialog box almost as much as Vista had. The version was 'hardy heron' or something like that. I gave up on it, removed what was left and put XP on the box. Been working mostly trouble since. So...the OS really does not matter as it is as much a personal preference as it is necessity.

Thank you for stopping by and your kind comments. I look back now and realize there are so many excellent applications that run exceptionally well in Vista including the suite of free Live Microsoft applications, Media Center, Rhapsody, MixCraft 4, WebCam Max and of course Windows Office 2007.

Once again, well thought out and balanced show. Your examples are top notch and spot on. I've been reading more and more about the Leopard woes (someone called it Apple's Vista!) but it still does not get nearly the coverage that Vista gets.
Ditto your comment about MovieMaker. I use it along with Microsoft's excellent, but forgotten, PhotoStory 3. Together, they make a nice package for making those dreadded vacation videos, 'trip reports', and slide shows.

Thanks again for a well balanced show and keep up the great work.

Thanks for your encouraging feedback on our Windows2Apples site. CrazyTalk 5 is not only an excellent tool for professional animators but I would assume a fantastic introduction to animation for children as well. I don't know how to judge age appropriateness, but can only begin to imagine the fun I would have had with it at 10 or 11.

In face of the recent escalation of negative Microsoft and Vista blogs CrazyTalk 5 is an excellent example of a beautifully executed application focused on enabling creativity that is not available for Apple systems.

You almost have me convinced that I need Crazytalk. I may have to venture there one day.

I love the experimental video site, btw. I'm normally not a fan of red, but it works and the 'web 2.0' look is terrific. Can't wait for new content.

I had not realized there was such a compatibility problem with Office 2007. That is disappointing, especially considering how tight they are otherwise. I guess they spent more time making it look pretty 'Vista-like' than they did in other areas.
Thanks for the heads up.

Microsoft's Live Search for Windows Mobile has excellent voice recognition. I have a Motorola Q with WinMo 5 and installed the live search. I used it on a trip recently and the accuracy was pretty impressive.

Thanks for the kind remarks. I still find the Vista Speech engine a well kept secret. It has a few major issues I hope Microsoft will address posthaste. The most pressing is the lack of support for all Microsoft 2007 applications.

The glaring lack of support for Messenger and Excel make Vista a less attractive option for disabled. I understand Bill Gates is committed to Voice Control and conversion technologies and have fingers crossed the issues with some key Microsoft Applications will be addressed soon.
